The Care Bears are a roly-poly bunch with a very special mission.
Care Bears are multi-colored bears, originally painted in 1981 by artist Elena Kucharik to be used on greeting cards from American Greetings.
The Care Bears were created after the popularity of another character the American Greetings card company created, Strawberry Shortcake.

These days there are 39 Care Bear characters, each with its own color, personality, and tummy symbol.
Where do the Care Bears live?
Care-a-Lot is the home in the clouds where the Care Bears live. It is made of fluffy white clouds, rainbows, and star and heart-shaped creatures.
It was actually based on the characters of Lancelot.
Care-A-Lot, like the land of Camelot.
That is also what the main Care Bear is named Love-A-Lot. A play on the name Lancelot.
The original artwork for the cards was painted and used for the greeting cards. They were also painted that way in these promotional mini-books.
