What are the lyrics to the Smurf Berry Crunch cereal song?

The lyrics for the Smurf Berry Crunch cereal commercial from 1983 still get stuck in my head to this day!

The lyrics are sung to the nutcracker suite song and the lyrics are: 

"Smurf Berry Crunch is fun to eat. A Smurfy, fruity breakfast, treat. Made by Smurfs so happily, it tastes like crunchy Smurf Berries, It's berry shaped and crispy too in berry red and Smurfy blue!" 

I will admit that Smurf Berry Crunch cereal was one of my favorites. I was right at the very tail and of being young enough to watch the Smurfs cartoons when this came out. So, I was in a good sweet spot for the cereal.

I also really loved the drawings of this animated cartoon based on Peyo's characters. 

Peyo's drawing style was new and unique to me with really thick, swoopy outlines. I really wanted to be able to recreate the line art when I drew as a kid.

Smurf Berry Crunch became Smurf Magic Berries

As the popularity of the cartoon died down the Smurf Berry Crunch cereal became unpopular as well.

In 1987 they tried to reboot the TV series by adding new characters. They also added marshmallows to the cereal and were now calling them "Smurf Magic Berries with marshmallow stars".

This just was not right to me. I never understood fruit cereals with marshmallows, but that's just my opinion.

The original Smurf berry crunch cereal was described as "a fruity sweetened corn, oat and wheat cereal with 10 essential vitamins and minerals". 

And, of course, had a great picture of Papa Smurf. And I think they even had stickers as the prize inside the box.

Jack Black says he was in a Smurf Berry Crunch Commercial

Jack Black has stated that he was supposedly in one of the Smurf Berry Crunch television commercials. He said he was being pulled in a red wagon by the Smurfs and apparently, this got him a lot of flack in school for being in a Smurfs commercial. I couldn't find the commercial when I searched online though so who knows if it's true or not?

One of the reasons they say the Smurf Berry Crunch cereal was discontinued, and while it's an interesting story, I don't entirely believe it. 

I think it's one of those things that got started as a rumor and then grew and grew. Because, like I said, I ate a lot of Smurf Berry Crunch cereal and this never happened to me.

So what was the thing that supposedly also had the Smurf Berry Crunch cereal discontinued?

They said it had an embarrassing side effect. 

People said that the unintended side effect was turning your bowel movement, a dark blue color, the same as the cereal's Smurf creatures and that is why they say it left the shelves. 

I do not remember hearing about this story at the time. And seriously the same blue as the smurfs? That has to be made up! 

Like I said, I ate a bunch of it and that never happened to me. Although I do remember there was a short period in time where there were certain color dyes that they had to stop using in foods so who knows?

More than I thought I would learn

So who knew that just because I wanted to listen to the Smurfs Berry Crunch commercial theme song I would also learn so many facts about the history of this fun cereal based on a cartoon show I used to watch.
