A Look Inside the Latest Vintage Pop Culture Finds This Week

I’m getting ready to pack up and send out a huge batch of items, covering everything from vintage children's books to classic holiday decorations and retro records.

This week, I have a surprisingly large stack of books, many with a holiday theme. Here is a look at some of the vintage toys, games, and books that sold today:

The Vintage Book Bonanza

First, I start with a massive stack of books.

1. The Highly Valuable Christmas Finds

Two Christmas books: The Tall Book of Christmas, which is literally a tall book. It is a chaptered book from 1954 featuring different Christmas stories and detailed illustrations.

Another holiday classic was the 1958 Night Before Christmas. This copy is unique because it is a tall book, a fuzzy wuzzy book, and a shape book since it is cut out to the picture on the cover. It features fantastic illustrations to go along with the original story of The Night Before Christmas.

2. The Fuzzy Wuzzy Book

Santa Claus and Lil Monk, a book from the 1950s. This is a "fuzzy wuzzy book," meaning wherever Santa’s suit is, it has a textured fuzz on top that you can feel. Usually, these fuzzy materials do not stand the test of time, but this one, despite being a paperback, is still in great condition. The strange story involves a monkey who is Santa's friend at the North Pole, who "keeps messing things up".

3. Disney & Classic Cartoon Illustrations

Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Walt Disney’s Alice in Wonderland (a giant Golden Book). The reason I like these books is that they are illustrated by the Walt Disney Studios, but they had them create special pictures specifically for the book instead of just using stills from the movie.

Pebbles and Bam Bam (1973) is based on the 70s cartoon and comic strip where Pebbles and Bam Bam became teenagers with "grown-up problems" even though they lived in the Stone Age.

4. Sesame Street & Children's Stories

Oscar’s Book sold, which is similar to Grover’s book in that the character talks to the person reading, going through the narration while wacky things happen.

The Together Book (1971) features illustrations by Roger Bradfield. I love the style of drawing in this book, which looks like "felt tip marker sort of drawings" of the Sesame Street characters.

Other notable books include the classic story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, which has illustrations based more on the original book that was put out, and Shirley Temple's Fairyland, a fairy tale book that was part of a series Shirley Temple created for children.

I was fascinated by a Mr. Rogers talks about book that sold, which I had never seen before. It is formatted into chapters that discuss subjects kids deal with, such as moving, fighting, the new baby, and how children can deal with their emotions.

Records and Decorations

1. Folk Music for Kids

Up first from my record collection was We All Live Together. This children's album from 1975 features the artists Steve and Greg and is essentially folk music for children.

2. Christmas Ornaments

A Mickey Mouse ornament, I would guess it's from the 1990s or early 2000s. Mickey is wearing a Santa hat and driving a jalopy filled with Christmas presents that have "to and from" written on them.

Kermit the Frog Muppet Babies doll. This is a promotional item from Hardee's, from the late 80s, featuring Kermit in a Christmas outfit.

That is a wrap on this week’s sales! If you want to see what other vintage items I have available or the kind of stuff I pick up, head on over to my store!
